What is a Refurbish?

Just because your computer has become a little long in the tooth, this doesn’t mean to say it can’t continue to carry on meeting your computing needs for years to come. However, your computer’s appearance has probably deteriorated from its beautiful and shiny new state, and the performance has probably deteriorated due to an accumulation of obsolete data on the disk, which is badly fragmented to boot!  Moreover, as the bearings in the cooling fans inside the computer have worn, so the noise has increased. Moreover, the case will be full of dust, clogging up the fans and generally causing a rise in operating temperature. The monitor picture is likely to have deteriorated from the optimum. Your mouse and keyboard may well be dirty and worn, with much reduced efficiency. Your operating system (Windows or Linux) will almost certainly be in a messy state.

Cleaning

The system unit case will be cleaned inside and out; the outside will also be treated to a mild abrasive cleaner to remove stubborn marks and scars in the plastic. The (assumed CRT) monitor will be similarly cleaned externally. Regarding the keyboard and mouse, unless these have been recently replaced, it really isn’t worth cleaning them, and new ones will be supplied. Otherwise the keyboard and/or mouse will be checked and cleaned.

Adjustments

The monitor picture will be adjusted to the optimum available. Noisy fans will be replaced on your CPU and power supply (and case if one is fitted) following cleaning

The hard disk will be cleared of junk files, and then defragmented. Finally, the operating system will be given a registry cleanup and a “repair re-install”, which will require no re-installation of applications, nor incur loss of data.

Prices

A Refurbish will cost between £25 and £35, depending on the computer type and peripherals.

Upgrade and Refurbish

Why not combine an Upgrade with a Refurbish? For example, treat yourself to a new flat panel monitor, and the rest of your computer to a refurbish at GM Computing.
